Playing to "cover your mini" may
be tho proper thing most of the time,
but It does not work all the time.
This was well illusl rated last night
when the Koseburg high school bas
ket ball team repeatedly did the one
step down the floor, bunched like an
i. W. W. meeting on a street corner,
with the .Medford team floundering
holplessly on the outskirts of the
crowd unublo to break up the play.
There wus no mistaking the fuct
that Hoseburg has a classy bunch of
basket ball shooters hut with all
their class and tho bag of tricks they
opened at every opportunity there
would have been a far different tale
to tell from the sad story of 2 S to 14
defeat of the locals had Coach Klum's
men been "right." It was evident
from tho Hrst that the locals were
several shades off their best game
and as they catno to realize tills fact
they began taking long chances and
trying to convert forlorn hopes into
baskets.
Tonight's game will in all proba
bility show a much different class
of piny on the part of Mcdford's
men. "Mut" Wlliamsou, whose abil-
ttv to shoot the hall sometimes takes
a day off. Is expected to shine with
Jones and the others who after think
ing the matter over and listening to
a discourse on the Koseburg contin
gent's system from Conch Khun, will
lead the grand march.
Tho largo audience which despite
tho Inclement weather filled the Nat-
atoiiiuu last night. Is expected to re
turn en masse tonight as It was gen
eral' the opinion that the local boys'
poor showing was due lo psycholog
ical reasons rather than that they
had met their superiors.

DOES NOT AFFECT
CROP OF VALLEY
The marketing of the 1 9 1 1; lloguo
river valley fruit will be unaffected
by the embargo against upples put In
to effect today by England. Only
2.100 boxes of Newtowns, handled
by local comlsslon firms are now In
New York, or were held there ut last
advice. This fruit was handled by
the Producers Fruit company.
According to officers of the com
pany this fruit can bo sold more ad
vantageously in this country than
abroad due In part to a raise last
week In freight rates to Glusgow,
Scotland, to willed port most of the
valley Newtowns nre consigned. The
freight rate was advanced from 40c

rate at 91c per box.
At the present timo there is a brisk
demand for Newtowns along the At
