EAGLE POINT EAGLETS
By A. C. Howletl
Last Saturday afternoon Messrs.
Ernest Webb, Henry W. Frame, P.
E. Wynkoop and W. W. Wulson drove
into town to meel an eugagement, ns
per announcement in The Mail Trib
une, to talk over with the people ol
Eagle Point, the prospect of creating
an interest in the ixinltry industry. It
wns a cold, bleak day and consc
qtiputlr'n very disagreeable afternoon
and the result was that there was a
very small attendance, nnd )erhnps
another reason for the small crowd
was that the ground had just got dry
enough so that the farmers could be
gin to plow and sow their spring gTain
nnd prepare their land for corn nnd
sugar beets. But the few who were
in attendanee were entertained for
some time, first by Mr. Frame, who
opened the meeting nnd after giving
a short talk on the subject of rnising
and caring for chickens introduced W.
W. Watson, who gave us a good
lengthy talk. I suppose it was nn in
teresting talk, but he spoke so low
that I couldn't heur much that he
said, but I suppo-e that it was good
bv the interest that those who could
hear well manil'etcil, for they
seemed to be greatly interested and
after he was through thev asked him
quite n numiicr of questions on the
subject. The subject was the differ
ent breeds of chickens, and the man
lier of handling thcui, nnd to one
who could hear what was said no
MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEPFORP, 'OREO
doubt would be profitable. At the
close of the lecture Mr. Watson asked
for the names of those who desired
to join the Southern Oregon Poultry
association and quite a number paid
their fee and were enrolled as mem
bers of the nssocintion. Before leav
ing this subject, I would like to say
that while Mr. Watson is writing so
much on the subject of poultry raising
and its benefits that would be de
rived from joining the association.
Miss Louise Blass came out Satur
day evening and gave a dunce in Ihn
opera house and it appeals from re
ports that it was well attended. They
danced until about 2 o'clock Sunday
morning and then dispersed and the
following persons were found at the
Sunnvsidc Sunday morning: Clifford
Hickson, Guy Prnett, Glen Haley,
George Guiren, Lyle Purdeu and Ray
mond Reter of Medtord and Al Clem
euts, Dave Smith nnd Noble Zimmer
man. Thev seemed to be well pleased
and hud but few complaints to make.
The Jacksonville basket ball team
came out haturciuy evening nnu
played against the Eagle Point team,
and canned off the laurels, the game
standing 25 to 13. Mr. Brndshaw of
the Jacksonville Post was among the
guests for supper and said that he
came out to sec the game.
Mrs. MeCaslin of the Ali Vista or
chard was here Saturday afternoon
to attend the Southern Oregon Poul
try association meeting and spoke on
the subject of the production of eggs
,snying that she had thirty-five Or
phington hens and that they had aver
aged her twenty-three eggs a day
nil winter. She spoke very highly of
that breed nnd so did A. h. Stony.
Judge Ton Velle and wile wercj
among the guests at the Sunnyside
Sundav for dinner.
Irvin Daley, wife and daughter,
Miss Yiiieln, came out on the P. & E.
Mondnv and took the Lake Creek
luge for1 their home in the Lake
Creek country.
Norman Mcuoid, one of our town
councilini'ii, and a respected eilizeu,

pecting his family to follow in about
two weeks.

&. E. Tuesday and took the Lake
Creek stage for their homes.

insurance company of Portland was

Waynuin licrgsman nnd Milton Hous
ton of Truil. They were putting up
the telephone poles along the route
from here up the. river that had been
broken down by the snow. Thomas
Vestal and three other men were here
for dinner, whose names I failed to
procure.
C. V. Cumniings, the superintendent
on the Ali Vista orchard, was in
town Tuesdav, having irons made to
make frames to haul his crude
from the depot. He has ordered '.
OllO gallons, to be used this spring in
spraying the truil trees in the or
