SAI.K.M, Ore., Feb. 1 a. Proposed
tariffs materially advancIiiK Inter-stale
freight rates on several classes of
freight on the Spokane, Portland and
Seattle railway, the Oregon Klectric
railway and tho Southern Pacific com
pany's lines In Oregon were suspended
lu three orders Issued by the public
service commission today. The tariffs
which have become effective late this
month, have been suspended for three
months. Further operation under all
the tarllfs is made contingent upon
the result of hearings to imnrirc
whether such tariff aro Injurious to
the public. It is staled by members
of tho commission that In many in
stances the rates proposed in the new
tariffs are double the present rates.
