sions by a few pert remarks, setting

Dr. A. U. Hedges emphasized the
necessity of adult organization in
Sunday school work, as in other lines
of activity. Attorney II. A. Cauadny,
teacher of the young men's bible
class, told of the plans of his class

plained a few of the many fascinat
ing methods used in the primary de

school, spoke of the means of im
proving the music, and gave the sur
prise that an orchestra composed of

ance this week.

hope that the children of the school

three inseparable institutions of any
successful nation, the home, the

One of tlic pleasant events of the
week was an old-fashioned party,
which wan given last Tuesday evening;
by the Misses Jessie anil Mae Mordoff
at tliei'r lumie on Quince street. The
guests eame arrayed in garments of
the past and had arranged their hair
to suit their dress. Several wedding;
frowns if u period thirty or forty
years ago, and three or four over
sixty years old, were worn. V.aeh per
son was told to bring their baby pie
lure. All the photograph were nnni
liered and plaeed on display; then en
sued a contest to guess the originals
of all the pietures. After another
name a short program was given.

The Young men's ''Live Wire" class
of the M. K. cluireh entertained their
friends and members with a hnmiuct
Tuesday evening at the church. After
most bounteous feast prepared by
the Ladies' Aid, all adjourned to the
new social hall, where light refresh
ments were served and a diversified
program rendered. Talks were given
bv Dr. Rollins, Mr. Canadav, Mr.
Fleming and by different members of
the class, including a "chalk talk"' bv
Floyd Jenkins. Mr. Dyer, who re
cenlly served in' the lliitish' army
gave an especially interesting talk on
the European war. i'he various num
hers on the program were interspersed
with some pleasing selections oy the

tel. Kveryone was well pleased by
the royal 'manner in which the "Live
Wires" entertained and hoped to at
tend another of these enjoyable af
fairs which will be given in the near

had been here since the Christmas
holidays as the house guest of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. 0. Huff, en
tertained Tuesday at an informal af
ternoon al the Huff country home,
south of Corvallis, inviting- a dozen
friends to share her hospitality. The

spent .several pleasant hours over the

tained complimentary to Miss Bryan,

Chicago for an extended visit. The
beautifully decorated rooms were in
keeping with the spirit of the season.
Hearts prevailed -pretty red hearts
with piercing arrows, cute little
kupies and scores of valentine were
in evidence everywhere. An artistic
mail box formed the center piece of
the table, from which was distributed
.in abundance of vnlcntines, both
comic and serious. Little Miss Mail-
line MeKeanv acted as the efficient
postman. To Miss Bryan, the guest
of honor, an especially large and
beautiful valentine was presented by
the ho-tess. The social endeavors on

which were so heartily accented, con
sisted id' readings, cards and music.
