On account of unusually inclement
weather, the aUemlaine at the jioul
try show Iiuh been rilHupimlutliiK both
from yotithcru Oniin and t lies Wil
lamette valley counties. Tho exhib
its arc among L hi best ever made in
the stale in any show. Those who
have attended ex-pn'ss surprise ami
appreciation of tho tfie.it progress
noted in the. nality of exhibits from
this part of tho slate. Karmors.
however, may he exemed for not
blinking their families to enjoy the
exhibition and Its educational ad
vantages, for the weather lias been
severely foKy and frosty.
I-'onr l)aH More.
Therefore, tho local poultry asso
ciation has obtained permission from
all of the exhibitors to continue the
show four days more, until next Wed
nesday evening at 10 o'clock and lias
reduced tho price of admission to t'
conta for everybody. The associa
tion will not he able to pay Us ex
penses, In any event, but Its officers
believe that the farmers and people
generally should enjoy the henefit of
the exhibition and its educational
features as a stimulation of interest
in the poultry Industry.
Brooders of Jackson county have
made excellent progress in the Im
provement of the quality of their
birds during tho past year. A num
ber of local exhibits of several varie
ties arc In a cluss with the best in the
state. The interest In further Im
provement Is very marked. Breeders
generally have quickly discovered
that there is added profit In im
proved quality.
Vnder Handicap.
The time was dlseouragingly short
In which to prepare exhibits. The
fitato association bad not previously
taken Into consideration the time re
quired to give notice of the location
of the state show, so exhibitors might
prepare for the show; nor had its of
ficials considered that January is a
bad month for exhibition of the best
! birds on uccount or the fuel that they
; have been mated at that time and'
, their owners cannot afford to (nter-!
rupt the preparation for the present j
year's hatch. Hereafter the annual
'election, at which the place of hold-I
lug the .slate show will be selected, j
will probably be held In October and )
the state exhibition In December. J
Next Wednesday will be Ashland
and Talent day In the local show. It
Is believed that the weather condi
tions will have moderated by that
time so all who are Interested in
promoting thy poultry Industry in
Southern Oregon can come com
fortably and t'njoy the exhibits. The
price of admission being only 1 0
cents for each visf tor, beginning
Sunday, the co.t ui the enjoyment
certainly ought not lo cause unvote
to hesitate to witiurs the b'-st poul
try show ever held In the state .south
of Portland.
Soring Breeder's Pens,
Judge ICeeney will probably con
clude the work of fl-'oring die local '
breeders' pens today. Th se score i
cards will be useful In locating the j
best birds in Southern Oregon. in !
that manner those who desire to im-j
prove their flocks will know where
to obtain Hie eggs and tho parent !
birds. !
The Southern Oregon Poultry a'-i- i
sedation now has a larger member- i
ship than the state association and, i
judging by the manner in which
memberships are being filed now, it j
will double that number in the next
three mouths. The work of this or
ganization promises lo add hundreds
of thousands of dollars to the income
of breeders and farmers generally in
this county alone. Jackson county
should now he yielding an annual
poultry output of a million dollars.
The local association through active
effort, and tho encouragement of
those who would assist In Increasing
tho incomes of home people, will be
able soon to bring tho output up to
that figure.
Iilberajl Support Asked.
.The home organization for this
purpose should be given liberal sup
port in this matter. Poultry should
bo made one of the big revenue pro
ducers In this valley.
The local show room will he in
readiness for a rush of visitors dur
ing the first half of the coming
week.
