Increasing Assessed Valuation
It is proposed ly ilie snjiimrters of ilie Medynslci
pl.ui tliiit the properly v:i I imt ions on pavement will
lie inereasi'd the amount of the pa vin assessments.
This means I hat aliont . 1 .(X !( ),( l( )( ) im j'eased valua
tion will he assessed against paved properties, on
whieh additional taxes will he collected. In addition
to city and school district taxes. 'to lie tints collected
from property owners, the state and county tax of
about l(i mills per annum will also have to be paid by
property owners cn pavement. On the sjO.ono.oni) in
creased value this means .1(i.0()0 each year, or -Jl-'K.-H)()
during the twenty-year period, for stale and
county tax only.
It should be readily understood that in addition
to on pavement properties paying sfcJUO.OOO for stale
and county purposes, t hese proper! ies will also pay liO
per cent more for city and school purposes.
There can. be no quest ion as to the dangerous, det
rimental and very injurious features of the .MedyiisUi
plan to all property owners and business. It should
be defeated.
We must have a solution to our financial troubles
immediately, and the Hanson plan provides it.

Men's association of this city and it? policy towards i
the public. ' " j
The statement that, tlie Business Men's assoeia- i
tion is organized to "I'ix; jirices" is an absolute false-'',
hood. Out of twenty-one fii-ns selling groeeries, six i
are menibers of the association. ; Out of nine meat !
markets, one belongs to the association. Our mem
bership consists of the fourcity banks, several physi- '
cians and business men iii all' lilies of trade. For a
considerable time the city water department was a :
member of the association. .. . '
The statement that the Business Men's assoeia-
tion wants to "kill tlie public, market" is another i
ialsehood. The association -went oil record as favor- j
ing the market liy passing.resolutions to that effect j
shortly after the market was started.- A large number
of the business men and their families arc rr-niliir
patrons of the market, and without their 'continued
support it would he a failure.
The association stands at all times for anvthing -that
is tor the best interests of the citv and county, i
e are organized for procuring better business
Jaws ami methods and for protection against fake ad-
vertisuig and professional "dead beats" and "won't !
pays. !
All our meet ings are open to the public. !
