army recruiting service Is now sta
tioned In Medford, having headquar
ters at the Holland Hotel. Yester
day three recruits, Carl Freeman,
James Rice and Oscar Chambers were
secured. All branches of service, ac
cording to Sergent Schuster, are now
open to men desiring to enlist. Hen
enlisting at the present time do so tor
a term of seven years, but may, after
the expiration of one year of service,
be plnced on the reesrve list If they so
desire. Boys between the ages of 15
and 18 may enlist with the consent of
their parents. Those over 18 may en
list without the cotisent of their par
ents. There Is a special demand it
this time for pharmlsts, cooks and
chaffeurs.

hlirh school, was struck by an auto at

lesult of her injuries.

wood to drive her car through a

when the car picked up speed rapidly
She was unable to control It, and
crashed into the fence. Tho car
waB slightly damaged. Mrs. Lock
wood was not hurt.

ment championship will be played off
Wednesday evening, between Robert
Ilrcvard and Fugl at Brown & Hall's
billiard parlors. Each contestant won
five nnd lost one game. The looser
of this contest will be tied with Maru

ond honors will be played Friday
evening. The scores in the tourna
ment have been unusually close and
exciting and are creating much inter
est among the bolllaidists. After
this tournament Is closed a handicap
one will begin with Chris Gottlieb as
