The case involves controversies be
tween shippers of tiie east, west and

Ins the fight for the inter-mountain
interests to force the rates to levels
which the railroads contend would
turn all the trans-continental business
over to steamship lines plying thru
the Panama eannl and break business
relations between tlio middle west
and the far west, running into mil
ons of dollars, it was asserted that
Jllxe railroads are willing to carry the
Roods in competition wit it water rates
at rates something above the costs
that they may keep the business and
serve their middle west shippers.
Tho Bernard Motor Co., of this
city was sold -Monday to tleorgo K.

Ilernurd sold the first Bodge MrothcTs
car ever brought to Medford und to
day there are more than 100 of these
popular cars"" in the valiey. They
have also sold a number of Hudson
Super Sixes this season. Mr. Henry
Kicno was ta,ken into the company
last March, und will return to his
former home at Du lionuef Iowa, to
resnmo the bunking business in which
he was Interested before coming west.
