majorities in the electoral college,
there seoined nevertheless to be a
feeling at both places there was a
chanco that the determination or the
final result with so many states
doubtful miglh be prolonged perhaps
for another day and there was some
unofficial talk that the decision might
eventually bo thrown Into the house
of representatives. There were sug
gestions also that there might be in
some states bitter contests over the
Inlegriay of the returns, w hich might
be drawn out for days with the result
hinging on a recount.

headquarters, commenting upon the
close vote in some states, declared
that a recount might be necessary.
