devote their time and money to the
improvement of the school grounds
and they hope to have the eo-opern-tion
of the city in the mutter of grad
ing llartlett street in front of the
grounds so the children enn get to
the school without wading in the mud
during the winter mouths. Mrs. Ja
cobs will have charge of a question
box at each meeting where the moth
ers are requested to bring their ques
tions. The circle will give a Thanks
giving social Friday evening, Novem
ber 2i, nt tile school building. There
will be a .splendid program and re
freshments. A small charge will be
made, the money to be used for buy
ing trees and shrubs for the school
grounds.
Mrs. I.ynette Ilovious and Miss
Jvndell Swindler were hostesses on
the al'lenioim of October 28 at a stu
dio Kensington tea in their conserv
ntorv rooms on IHver.side avenue,
given in honor of the lady teachers of
the city schools. Forty-four ladies
were included in the invitations. The
spacious studio rooms at the Xatator
iiini were beautifully decorated. Aut
umn leaves nnd rid laurel berries with
their green foliage were massed in
huge pumpkin vases, which artfully
ci, , Tied out the color scheme. The
Misses Lawrence. Ilrown, Miller, Ilaiu,
Kappess, ISuffuin, Charley, liurbidge
and Sta, y of Hie conservatory
classes, arrayed in while sailor trous
ers and middies, with orange caps
nnd ties, artistically danced- the
"Jumping Jack's Jubilee'' to the de
light of all. This was followed by a
beautiful solo dance, "The Fairy's
lievel," by Carol I'aye Ilovious
fairy costumes.
'The guests were met at the door
by I.-abell Stuart and Klizabe.th Ail
lien in dwarf costume. Jovee Mad-
dox. another tiny dwarf, met the la
dies on the second floor and directed
them to the dressing room. Miss
Huiiham and Miss Cox presided at the
tea tables. The Misses Dorothy Mil
ler, Virginia liufl'aui, Daisy Bain.
Florence liain and Claire Hanly as
sisted in serving.
The dancing party given by the
girls of SI. Marks at the St. Marks
hall Friday evening proved to be u
very pleasant affair. The hall was

son's colors, black and yellow. The

Invitations are out for the alumni
political party" which will take place
at the armory Friday evening, Novem
ber :j. ' This affair will be the open
ing dance of the season for this popiw
lar organization and bids fair to he
a huge success in every sense of the
word. Needless to say, there will be
no campaign sweehes, arguments or
fights. However, the political atmos
phere will not be lucking. Unusunj
decorations, novel programs and the
latest popular music by Launspacli's
orchestra will coiubiue to assure the
success of this initial pnrty. All
alumni, high 'school faculty and stu
dents are invited to attend, a few in
vitations being issued to outsiders.
The list of patronesses will be an
nounced later.
The regular homeeoiuiug of the
First Methodist church ladles' aid cir
cle met with a good number Wednes
day afternoon at the church. An in
teresting business session was follow
ed by a pleasing program. Tango
banjo and piano duct, Miss ltemiee
Balcom and Bliss Heine; vocal solos,
.Mrs. Van Scoyoe; reading, Miss
Phipps; short address, Mrs. Wieks.
Much amusement was had in taking u
slraw vote for the election of presi
dent. After stupendous results the la
dies adjourned to the social hall,
where delicious refreshments were
served. The l.ovalty circle will have
barge of the church decorations for
the month of November.

The Medfonl Parent-Teacher
Council will meet in the public library
next Tuesday, October 31, at 4:25
p. ni. The council consists of the
executive committees of all the Par
ent-Teacher circles, one delegate from
each circle, all of the school prin
ciples and fjfc city superintendent of
schools. Business of importance and
of interest to all the circles will be
considered nnd it is hoped that there
may he a large attendance. All pres
idents are requested to bring or send
lists of executive committee members
to this meeting.
A Hallowe'en frolic will be given by
if lc parents and teachers of the Wash
ington school Tuesday evening at 7 :30
o'clock. F.verv one is cordially invit
ed to attend. Those desiring to, may
mask and join in the grand march of
the maskers. Admission free. Short
program by the pupils. Pumpkin pie,
ider, doughnuts, ice cream and candy
will be served and sold at their re
spective booths during the evening.
There will also be a fish pond, where
all anglers may have a catch. Come
and bring your lriends.

delightfully at her home Friday after
noon witli a bridge party. After an
afternoon spent at bridge refresh

Mrs. W. J. Hoi'kenyos leaves for
Rosalie, near Spokane, Wash., this
afternoon, after spending several
weeks in the valley visiting with rein
lives and friends. Mr. Hockenyos has
seemed a position at ltosalie and the
couple will iiiiike their home there for
the present.
The Grizzlies will have their first
hike since the annual outing on Sun
day, October 20. to climb Pike's peak,
beyond Gold Hill. This will be a fine
trip and fl large crowd is expected,
as so many have expressed a desire
for an nil-day trip during the fine
fall weather.
St. Mijik's Guild held their regit
lar meeting Thursday afternoon. Af
ter the business meeting dainty it

The Guild is planning on giving one

ford held their regular social meeting

program was rendered, consisting of

tests were held In the basement.
which were much enjoyed by those
present.
The church was tastefully deco
rated with appropriate Halloween ef
fects and accompaniments, jack-o-lan-
terns forming a consplclous and pleas
ing part.
Appetizing refreshments were serv
ed by the young people of the Chris
tian churchi full justice belug done to
them by the assemblage.
Tentative plans were discussed by
the young people to have Medford in
cluded on a Lyceum circuit. The bu
reau under consideration presents an
especially good course this season and
one which will be of much instructive
interest to the people of the com
munity should the young people de
cide to secure it. - Tho feasibility of
a Y. M. C. A. was also discussed and
much enthusiasm nianisfestcd. This
meeting was unusually well attended,
there being about 200 present.
The efforts of the young people are
very commendable and are worthy
of the support and assistance of the
people of Medford, when necessary.

She was bora in Jackson county,
where she has continuously made her
home. Her parents were among the
pioneer settlers of southern Oregon,
having come here in 1853. . She has
always resided on the farm nnd owns
one of the best of the many valuable
irrigated farms in the productive
Applegate valley. The groom is pro
prietor of the Crane Grocery company
of Central Point, where he has resid
ed for nearly two years, having been
employed for some time, before en
gaging in the mercantile business as
editor of the Central Point Herald. Ho
Is an old newspaper man, having for
twenty-five years been engaged In
journalism in Nebraska and Iowa. In
"Douglas county, Nebraska, he owned
for five years a syndicate of five pa
pers. He also owned newspapers in
Audubon county, Iowa, and is widely
known in the Missouri valley country.
He is one of the most progressive bus
iness men of Central Point, where he
is highly esteemed. The newly mar
ried couple will divide their home for
tho present between the store and
farm, devoting their energies to the
-improvement of both.

The Kpworth league of the Metho
dist church will give a Hallowe'en
masquerade party nt the church Tties
day evening to which all members and
friends are invited. The social hall
will be decorated for the occasion and
the usual witches,' ghosts and bla'k
rats will all he there. In addition,
there will be "creatures" in mask,
costumes never seen before. Hallow,
e'en games of various kinds 'will h
played and the committees in charge

make this a success.
The Modern Woodmen of America
entertained the Royal Neighbors with
a social session at the K. P. hall on
Friday evening. About orv were

with dancing, after which refresh

Portrait of a Popular
Many friends arc interested in the
announcement of the marriage of
Miss Dorland Rcginn Robinson of
Jacksonville to C. H. Pearson of New
York City. The wedding was an
event of Wednesday at the Congre
gational church of Portland, Rev.
Dydott performing the ceremony. The
wedding came as a surnrise to the
many friends and acquaintances of
the bride of this city. Mr. Pearson
is a traveling salesman for Ihc Yale
Lock company of New York. Miss
Robinson is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Robinson of Jacksonville,
and has won large fume as an artist
of great talent. Her paintings have
won fame in all coast cities. Follow
ing the ceremony the young couple
left for an extended traveling trip and
will visit Spokane, Seattle, Victoria,
then will return to Medford and Jack
sonville for a visit, .From here they
will go to San Francisco, Los An
geles, San Diego before going to New-
York, where they will make their
home. There the bride will continue
her art work.

WOMEN'S CLUB NOTES

The Red Cross unit of the Greitor
Medford club has been working since
June 1. and last week sent to Servla
throuRh the New York Red CroA
Bociety, three large boxes containing
bandages of all kinds and sizes,
operating gowns, pails and various
other hospital accessories. ,
We wish to state to tho public that
our funds are gettlni; low and ask
through the medium of the local
uapcis, for contributions frpm tho
various churrhtis, clubs and fraternaj
organizations, for funds to carry on
the excellent work.
Tho Elks nnd the Kplscopal church
arc contributing with monthly dona
tions and tho Greater Medford club
will be grateful to any other church,
club, fraternal organizations and in
dividual wishing to assist in this
splendid work to aid suffering hu'
inanity in the waning nations.
Tho Art Department is working to
prepare for their exhibition nt the
November meeting. It will be one'ot
the most Interesting events of tbe
club year. Some excellent work lii
various lines Is being done.
The Art Department is regretting
tho loss of a valued member, Miss:

married and who will make her fu
ture homo In New York. An effort
