bocause of its novelty and great con

and to a height of sixty feet above
the floor, it represents that place so
dear to chihlish hearts, and in It they
see hunting all about the walls, their
familiar and beloved toys. Into this
soeno marches eighty girls costumed
in uniforms to represent the soldiers

COMMUNICATION
To the Kditor: I wish to explain for
tiie benefit of tho citizens and voters
of Medford why we are asain er.doav
oririK to initiate tho socalled Mcdyns
!; rebondiuK and refunding jdan for
another vote of tho people.
' Now we have eery confidence in
the present city council's ability to
offer a solution of this question if
they would enter into this matter in
an open and business-like manner,
but I have had a number of confer
ences with this body and its members
and a majority of them seem to have
their own personal! interests so much
in view and are also so Influenced by
certain past city officials and present
city organizations that they don't
consider the fundimental principals
involved in this vital question, namely
the bleeding of the public who own
real estate in this city by their sup
posed authority of being able to col
lect direct assessments.
Now the writer is a living witness
as to their ability to instigate suite to
collect theso socalled direct
special
assesments for a nnhlii
improvemcnt
and I want to tell all of Medfords I ,
citizens and voters there is nothing I
to It, there is not a lawyer In Medford ,
who will openly take this socalled:
suit to collect these past pavement
assessments against the writer as my
'open challenge to all attorneys of the,
city of Medford printed in the col-'
timris ot this paper over a'year ago
has not been accepted and there is a
reason.
About a year ao the council ap
propriated $ 1000.00 to pay for some
one to accept my challenge but so far
ho one has entered the lot;al arena to
collect from your humble servant and
'I have lived and am still living the
popular - watchful waiting life every
since, thanks I o some of Medford's
able attorneys for saving Medford's
'tax payers a clean $1 000.00 In tie
past year, better elect Modford law
yers to the city council we would save
'money.
' Now the present council Is talking
of rebondlng and not reimbursing and
not wiping out these bogus liens, why
the effort? you can guess, there is a
joker in this measure, if tho past
seven years won't prove to anyone
that special assessments will not he
paid, and one year with a threatened
law suit pending to collect hut. which
w a s n e ve r start e d , w h y watch a n d
wait 1 0 years more?
If the city nf Medford owns the
intersections they own the streets and
they will pay for them by general
taxation if not now, they will before
Ibis next ten years is up if the writer

of this article lives and if it's neces
sary for him to stand alone against
the powers that he, who would take a
private citizens home by direct assess
ments to pay for a public pavement
laid on the public'? property.
I am young yet but I can wait 10
ypars more if Medford's guardians of t
the peace see fit. j
' Now a bunch of us reactionaries
who believe in taxation by valuation j
are again a going to ask this honor
able body of men (the city council)
who are supposed to represent the !
people but who really represent their
stocks of goods and etc) to allow the
people to vote on this business mans
measure again and we will succeed as
past records will prove.
' The measure (lint is beins initiated
up at this time is the second proposi
tion that Mr. MedynskI offered to the
j council and Is substantially as fol-
! Inws rulinnil for :. 000. Oft nt F, iinr
cent, the amount of tho outstanding
bonds, clear all property off of the
"Mack List" of special assessments
refund to the property owners who
(have paid in part or all, together with
the amount paid, In City Time War
rants bearing 5 per cent payable one
twentieth each year with interest and
good on taxes, tills will immediately
clean up the titles to property which
our present city council don't want to
do, but the people does, and It will
cause every one to pay his just pro
portion by valuation which don't suit
also, and it will lift this unjust bur
den from tho homes of Medford and
place it on all the taxable revenue
producing property in the city of Med
ford which is where It justly belongs
