rey Huberts was the recipient of the

with a splendid show of talent, and it
is to be hoped be. will receive, a medal
soon.

and Villa bandits at Cuslmirlacbic,

confirmed tlio defeat of the outlaws.
Secretary Lansing said today Hint de
partment border agents, upon infor
mation secured from natives, report
that 250 Villa bandits attacked a
force, of 150 Carranza soldiers and
were driven off. A second engage
ment followed In which the outlaws
retreated. One Mexican asserted that
Villa himself was present during the
engagement.
Having arrived at the time of the
season when the evenings are chilly,
the popular evening concerts, which
have been given by the Medford band
regularly onco weekly during the
summer, will be given during October
on Sunday afternoons. The program
for this Sunday will consist of "re
quest numbers" selected from the
proceeding concerts the band has
given this summer. There are many
beautiful selections that have been
requested, among which will be no
ticed the "Chimes of Normandy." The
bell obligato In this opera will be
played by Mr. Itoot. Itandmaster
Reginald Rowland linn received many
requests for the old songs "Robin
Adair" and "Loves Old Sweet Song,"
The latter will be played as a cornet
solo by the director. The program,

CHICAGO, Sept. .'HI. Alleged
blackmailers of a man described as a
"wealthy eastern manufacturer" were
taken into custody by federal agents
in n raid on an apartment house early
today.
The prisoners were two men mid a
woman.
Fhibornte opium smoking outfits
and a large ipiuntity of habit-forming
drugs were seized in the raid, federal
agents said.
Those taken into custody are K. H.

number of letters written by a
wealthy Cedar U.ipids. la., merchant
