LITTLE DAMAGE BY
STORM SAYS GATE iTW
Tlie storm of late Sunday after
noon was rather local and wan caus
ed by the hot weather of low barom
eter pressure of the three or four
previous days. It varied In velocity
from 13 to o miles per hour as com
pared to a maximum of 75 miles per
hour attained by the previous storm.
Its duration was from about 5:30 to
S:30 o'clock. It also varied greatly
In the valley, some sections escaping
with very little damage. Those hav
ing Aniou and Cornice pears sustained
the greatest losses. Altho tbe Anjous
suffered heaviest they were often
merely thinned. Only in a few In-
stauces was the loss over 25 per cent.
The Conilce suffered the heaviest
from the previous storm and again
the damage to them was next to the
Anjous. Only seldom were other va
rieties more than thinned. Apples
In general suffered but slightly, the
wind falls acting as a light thinning.
To make a fair estimate of the loss
is impossible without first making a
thorough canvass of all the districts
of the valley. On the whole the loss
was considerably below that of the
lUth. The heaviest losses probably
ranged between 25 and 50 per cent,
and from there down io nothing.
.Mr. Kline, inspector In the Koguc
river d!:-trict. reported that the dam
age from Central Point and north
was very slight. In the Mcdfoul dis
trict the areas suffering most was
about llillcrest. Hear Creek and Han
son, and the Foothills orchards.
