WILL TAKE Pi-rNCe. IN CINCINNATI
FEW ESCAPED
HUNTINGTON', W. Va., Aug. 11.
Rescue parties proceeded far into the
mountain districts today, carrying re
lief to thousands of homeless people
in tiie Cabin creek valley, which was
swept by a flood Wednesday, caus
ing a loss of more than 00 lives and
property damage reaching into the
millions. Progress was slow as many
bridges have been washed out and
the roads are blocked by slides.
Scores of men have -begun cleaning
up the debris to prevent an epidemic
and to open the roads through the
valley so that supplies can be trans
ported to stricken town-s.
J. W. Hartless of this city, who
was at Eskdale Wednesday morning
when the cloudburst swept Cabin
creek valley, Is the first eye witness
to reach Huntington from the flooded
district. According to his story, at
8:30 o'clock in the morning Cabin
creek started rising at tho rate of
eight feet an hour and continued
until the creek reached from moun
tain to mountain. Houses floated
down stream at the rate of n a
minute. Whole families rushed for
the hillside, he said, but some never
reached safety. One could hear
women praying on all sides.
Tho known dead by towns follows:
Forndale, IS; Hurricane, 1; Oak
ley, 7; Eskdale, 3; Lee Wood, 1;
Cherokee, 1; Oliley, .1; Urownland,
i ; Rod Warrior, 1.
Scores of others are missing and
are believed to be dead.
DeWolf Hopper, who played in the
Gilbert and Sullivan Opera, "Tho
Jllkado," here two years ago, will
make his photoplay debut to lovers
of the motion picture art at the PaKo
Theatre today, in I). W. Griffiths
Fine Arts modern comedy, entitled
"Sum hlne Dad." '
"Sunshine Dad" Is an old sport,
fond of a good time, who does not ap
iprovo of his son's staid manner.
And his wild lire with chorus girls
results in getting the son into a com
plicated predicament. A gang of vil
lainous Hindoos, a real lion turned
loose, and a treacherous Count,
played by Chester Whitey, figure
prominently in the play.
However, in the concluding scenes,
"Sunshine Dad" proves himself
worthy of the hand of Widow Marri
more, ji charming person, played by
Fay Tineher.
An innovation in Keystone is Son
nett's "Snow Cure." It Is a three
reeler, and each reel is a three
screamer. With Ford Sterling as tiie
star, the tragic love story is told of
a fnale flirt, who fell in love with
the wife of his fellow boarder. This
"He vampire" does his best to wreck
the home of the poor hen-pecked
Dutchman. Even a worm turns at
last: so whin the Dutchman finds his
wife and Ford in a "compromising"
situation, lie wreaks terrible ven
geance with a Keystone revolver in
true Keystone fashion.
Tills is one of the nest all-around
hills, that has held the boards at the
Page Theatre for some time and is
sure to win Instant favor.
