tered without charge by appearing nt
tho office of the city recorder and
nfter being duly nworn, stating tho
following fncts which tho recorder
shall enter upon the official registra
tion card for tho general city regis
ter. Tho elector shall sign his or
her namo to tho affidavit In the
presence of tho recorder or one of
bis deputies. If tho elector cannot
sign his or her name, tho recorder
shnll sign the elector's name, and tho
elector shall mnkn a cross between
the surname and given nnme. The
recorder shnll enter In tho affidavit
tho following Informatien: Namo of
elector, surname to be given in full;
place of residence, which shall In
cludo tho room, street and number,
If thero be any; Hint tho elector Is
upwards of yearn of ago; place
of birth; whether naturalized and In
whnl court; how long In Oregon, City
and Ward.
(d) Tho recorder shall register any
qualified elector who may request to
ho registered at any tlmn after thin
amendment shall be of force and ef
fect, except that ho shall refuso to
register any elector during ten days
next preceding any general or special
election.
(e) No elector who Is not register
ed ns provided In this amendment
shall bo entitled to vote at any elec
tion provided for by law In said city.
Provided, however, that any doctor
who has not compiled with the pro
visions of tills section ns amended,
before tho day on which any election
may be held, mny register with the
recorder or onn of his deputies In the
manner hereinbefore described, and
by furnishing the additional require
ment, following; The affidavit of one
witness, to the effect that Hurh wit
ness Is personally ncqunlnted with
tho elector and his or her residence,
and that thoy are us stated; that such
witness bellovcs all the other state
ments of such elector to be true, and
that said witness is a freeholder In
said City.
(f) At the close of tho registra
tion preceding any election, and be
fore teh opening of the polls on the
day of such election, tint recorder
shall arrange ami transmit to tho
election Judges in eucli ward in alpha
betical order, tho poll list from tho
general city register for the respec
tive -wards, and cause tho same to bo
Indexed so any elector's namo may
bo readily found, and tho same shall
bo used by said judges In tho conduct
of said election, and opposite tho
name of each voter shall be marked

(g) It shall he the duty of every
elector In tho City to register prior
to the legular annual election In

register again, but when an elector

ascertain the names of such voters
who hnve lost their residence by ren

thereupon cancel tho registration of
such persons if not already cancelled.

such recorder, or nny Judgo or clerk
of election, or any city officer, who
shall wilfully disregard any Of the
provisions of this section, or who
shall wilfully fall to perform or en
foice nny of the provisions of this
hectlon or nny person who shnll
wilfully or fraudulently register
more than once, or register under
nny but his or her true name, or at
tempt to vote by Impersonating nu
other who Is registered, contrary to
tho provisions of this section, or

of registering, upon conviction shall
be punished by Imprisonment In tho
city Jail not less than 25 days nor
