A r'J'lJMN is llio season of perfection.
Nature lias completed her year's work and serenely
contemplates the harvest, pausing i'or recreation ere slip
ping into the winter's sleep to rest and prepare I'or the mir
acle of spring.
Pluming banners of crimson and gold push aside the
starry splendor of the night and usher in the perfect day.
From the fading blades of grass glitter the frost jewels of
the dawn vanishing as mysteriously as thev came, with
the growing splendor of the da v.
Tho glory of the season is everywhere reflected in the
landscape. The living emerald of summer has given way
to tho hectic hues of dying beauty to russet and scarlet
and gold. The gaunt limbs of the forest are gradually
bared as the leaves silently fall one by one, their mission
HUhlJoil. beared grasses restlessly wave in tho gentle
breezes, scattering the seeds of replenishment.
In the air is the magic quickening touch of frost ot
frost that paints the gold upon tho pumpkin, the blue upon
the grape, the blush upon the tipple and upon the foliage its

L ir, the season of Indian summer. A dreamy haze fills
ine air. 'ine sun irom tlio arch ol heaven smilingly show-oi-s
the fading garments of the earth with golden splendor.
Uorgoous sunsets merge tho dying driv and the nurnle
curtains of the night with the silvery beauty of the Octo

October fields, with their natural beauty and bounte
ous harvests, are the fields of glory in tho United Htules.

WHY NOT BOND THE COUNTY?
T K it is a good plan to bond .Medford for a million dollars
to benefit town-lot speculators, hard-un nronortv own
ers and well-to-do tax-dodders, to trivc them a cash rebate.
why is it not an equally good or bettor plan to bond .Jack-
sou coiiiuy ior ion nuiiion.s and ronato all the taxpavors
the past ton years' taxes?
The delinquent lax list in Jackson county is a long ono.
Every taxpayer would like the tax money returned. Some
really need it. Why not issue bonds and give it to (hem
Why permit our people to suffer'?
Moreover, tho plan has advantages over that nmwosod
for iMcdford under the Alcdynslci scheme. It is fairer, be
cause iwovy taxpayer woultfsharc in the benefitone class
would not be favored at the expense of another class.
If wo can create prosperity by bonding ourselves-" and
taxing ourselves, why not give every one in the county a
chance to reap this prosperity? Every one can got a hunk
of it thou. Of course, the money will JiaVo to bo paid back
but thai is for future generations to settle.
.left Hoard used to say that ho would sign anything that,
didn't come w for thirl v days. That is exact'lv the posi-
iiniioi iiioattvoeaiosoi uio Aietiynsui plan, l.ot tho future
care for itself. (Jive them the 'coin at the city's expense
for thirty days, oven if it spells bankruptcy cveutuallv.
Every argument advanced for the paving rohouding
plan is equally good for the county bonding idea, doing
neodlesslv into debt and forcing the community to pav pri
vate obligations is the cardinal feature of the iiew finance.
