The white ribbon special, bearing
the national officers and workers pf
tho W. C. T. V., passed through Mod
ford Monday, the 18th, on their way
to tho annual convention at Snu
Francisco. This train was. allowed a
stop of thirty minutes by special in
quest and arrangements nt the City
Ilcaiitiful, Ashland. At this tinunthc
city of Ashland did itself proud lis
royal entertainers. The Commercial
club and its friends distributed frcclv
to theso workers their famous lithia
water, also grapes, peaches, pours
and apples, such fruits as Asliland
and the entire lloguc lliver valley is
justly proud. While there Miss Anna
Howard, the national president of the
W. C. T. U., was presented with n
basket of beautiful rose, compli
ments of the city. Miss Howard
thanked tho friends for their kindly
interests in the welfnto of the woik-
crs and their glad welcome to their
licniitiful city. Wliilo in Ashland
Miss Anna Howard, Miss Muun, Mrs.
Stevenson and Mrs. Tillinniin nil
briefly addressed the people. After
the train hearing these noble women
had left the city n convention of W.
C. T. U. workers was called at tho
Fiist M. K. church with County Pres
ident Mrs. T. A. Howell presiding. At
noon the Ashland Union, under tho
direction of the locnl president, Mrs.
Molina Ashcraft, served a delicious
chicken dinner to the visitors. At 2
o'clock ninthcr session was called by
President Mrs. Howell, when tho dif
ferent unions gave reports, sugges.

Lincoln school held its regular meet
ing on Friday afternoon. Miss Hob
inson, our librarian, gave n most
helpful talk on "Hooks Children
Should Head." Among tho many
things of general interest, she said
that the attendants at tho library
would. gladly give help to all mothers
in choosing honks for their children
to rend. That at tho library they hod
lists of books for each grade ai rang
ed in order of their value to tho child,
and parents and teachers were very
welcome to consult these lists That
about November 1 there would be a
set of books here front tho state lib
rary which would contain the best
books to buy for Christinas, and tho
patrons of tho schools and library
wcie urged to use these books freely.
She also stated that the story telling
hour would be resumed on Saturday
morning at JO o'clock and connected
programs would he carried out during
the car.
The next meeting of the circle will
lie held on tho second Friday of No
vember, when reports from tho Cor-
