The wn ItHltcTciigfl our productivity is to secure irri
tant inn, wltfch'will eliminate the ifniuhle IVnirt I'nrininp; and
lie eiop iiHuranep.
The way to establish the industry that utilizes our
products is to furniull the reipjired nrre.'ige needed for
punr beets.
The M'oplp of the Central Point district are fortunate
in that tlicv have the opportunity to secure both irrigation
and the sugar factory, and make this favored region the
most prosperous in the valley.
Three thousand acres signed up for -water will secure
the expenditure of $250,000 In rtir 'irrigation system that
will cover 1J0,000 acres. The same amount of acreage
signed tip for beets would, in all likelihood, secure the fac
tory, which business sense would locate where the great
est acreage existed.
Three thousand acres irrigaied next season will mean
double that amount the next year, and an ever-increasimr
amount jn the ears to come.
The Ventral Point region is fortunate. While other
parts of the valley are frantically chasing irrigation rain
bows, real. water is being shoved at it. AVhile other sec
tions are running after will-o'-the-wisp honding schemes

A TEMPORARY SETBACK
A'HVOr'ATlCS of equal suffrage should not be discour
aged bv the fad thlat the suffrage affiendnient was
defeated in the special election held in New .J rsey. It is
only one of the many temporary defeats that always mark
the onward march of progress.
It is only a question of time until equal suffrage be
eonus universal. It is and will be opposed by lories, just
us eery reform is. If will eventually triumph, because it
is riirht. and the cause of the riiihtcoiis alwavs prevails.
Success for suffrage depends upon education, and edu
cation is gradual. If is a inalter of evolution, not of revo
lution. The result in Xew .leisev simply shows thai Un
people of Xew Jersey are not yet ready for suffrage
thai (hey are still bound by the ties of convention.
YVho:are the opponents of suffrage? Wg business, pol
ilical corruption, the liquor interests, organized vice and
the lories who constitutionally oppose intimation. The
same opposition is arraigned against workmen's compen
sation, corporation regulation, social and industrial jus
tice, initiative and referendum against all political prog
ress. Kvcrv argument against voles for women applies
equally against votes for men. The fight for manhood
