lace for which Mr, Armour was oblig
ed to pay $9,000 custom duties when
ho brought It to this country from
Franco In 1901 Is believed by tho po

two robbers who last night entered"

and escaped with loot valued nt

ernment appraisers, at moro than

Tho Jewelry stolen by tho robbers
consisted mainly of diamonds. A
pocket book containing $75 was tho
only cash they got.
Mrs. Armour In a struggle with the
robbers was struck on tho head with
n "billy." Her Injury was slight.
Mrs. Armour had retired for tho
night and had been In her apart
ments only a fow minutes when tho
robbers entered. They gained on
tranco froi. a porch after cutting tel
ephone wires to provent any nlarm.
Ono had ascended tho stairs and had
reached tho threhhold of Mrs. Ar
mour's boudoir before his presence
was discovered.
While ono of tho bandltK hold Mrs.
Armour and her maids In n comer of
tho room, threatening death to nuy
who moved or shouted an alarm, his
companion swept tho dresser of
Jewels. Then tho bnndlt went
through thn rooms, taking nil tho val
uables not locked up.

ran down tho stairs and escaped
through a back door. Mr. Armour had
gone to tho Armour mimmcr homo In
Lake- Forest during thu day and did
not reach homo until after tho rob
