ASK MILLION A
YEAR FOR ROADS
PORTLAND, Jan. 6. To rnlBo a
million dollars a year for two years
for an additional state road fund, a
petition has been sent to the Mult
nomah delegation soliciting tho sup
port of tho delegation In the legis
lature. Tho draft ot the measure,
together with tho petition, was pre
sented nt tho meeting ot tho delega

and others interested in tho good
roads movement. Following Is the
petition tho legislators were asked to
considor.
Ono of tho most Important meas
ures to come before tho legislature
will bo a proposed mlllago state tax.
for two scars, for state highway aid.
Tho necessity ot this will bo appar
ent to any ono familiar with good
roads development in tho state. The
plan was unanimously supported by
tho recent convention of county com
missioners and Judges In Portland.
To raiso this sum will rcqulro a 1
mlll state tax levy for tho next two
years.
Last year California raised for
stato highways $18,000,000, and
Washington $2,500,000.
Multnomah county pays one-third
of tho taxes ot tho state, and will
build her own roads without asking or
receiving stato aid. This places her
in a position to request tho passage
of this measure.

Dear old friends:
It has been many years slnco we

If either of you.nro living or have

us boys.
Anxiously awaiting an answer, I
