relative near. His body was found
on the floor of his apartment beside

for. Tlio coroner pronounced death
bb duo to heart failure, superinduced
by artorlo-BcleroslB, complicated with
other organic troubles.
Mr. Payno's death removes a not
able figure from tho house. Ho bad
served in that body for" more than a
quarter of a century during which
time ho hnd taken n conspicuous part
in tho framing of tariff measures,
having been recognized as one of the
foremost authorities on tho subject.
Tho scnato accepted tho invitation
of tho houso to participate In the pub
lic funoral Sdnday and adopted reso
lutions and adjourned. Senators ap
pointed to attend tho funeral were
Root, O'Gorman, Clark, Martlno,
Drandcgee, Ashurst, Lodge, Smith of
Georgia, Nelson and Dankhcad.
