which wns canvassed yesterday af
ternoon by tho board ot trusted
showed tho members ot that body to
favor tho saloon by a vote ot 470
to 111. Four ot tho ballots were
blank. Of tho 860 mouthers, only
CSS toted.
Tho vote Is given out not as an ex
pression of tho Chamber as a body,
but ns tho opinion ot tho Individual
members. Tho vote was not taken at
tho request ot tho Hopsrowers' asso
ciation, but was suggested by mem
bora within tho organization. Tho
members ot tho Chamber who arc
most interested in tho matter arc
hotclkecpcrs and brewers.
Several other cities have taken
similar votes. These include San
Francisco, Log Angeles and St. Paul.
In several cases resolutions on tha
subject havo been officially passed.
Considerable opposition to tho voto
was expressed leforo the count was
made public, and It was thought for a
