The eorn is from the Eaglo Point ranch of 'P. J. Tarton
and was grown between young orchard trees. It pro
duced a yield of 108 bushels to tho aero. SLty-eight ears,
feleetod as samples, weighed seventy-two pounds in the
Jskuek. The yield from a quarter of an acre exceeded .125
bushels to the acre.

problem of making not only a livelihood, but of continu
ing purchase payments on tlfo land until the fruit (roes
become old enough to yield profitable crops, his suecess
is an object lesson to the orchardist as well as farmer, who
can both profit by his experienbe.
The corn was grown without irrigation and without
fertilizer. Dry farming methods were employed. The
ground was plowed deeply last fall not scratched as is
hie practice of' so many Rogue river ranchers. Hefore
planting this spring it had been gone over four times with
a springfooth harrow. It was sowed with a drill and has
been harrowed frequently since.

fullv selected from last roar's crop, taken from the larg
est and most prolific stalks, bearing the biggest and full
est cars. The same process lor seed eorn is I ol lowed
yearly by this practical farmer, hence lie secures by elim
ination the highest grade stock.

now, and sells off several hundred a year, and thus real
izes more per bushel for the corn than he could secure by
selling it in the market.
Modern farm methods, common sense, industry and
hogs are solving the problem for Mr. Parton. They can
be made to solve it for anv of our orehardists.
