ilar one wns organized for the pur
pose of studying tho flora of thp
United Slntcs. Thnt of Crater lake
hold a great deal of interest nnd the
botanists all urged that no foreign
flowers or trees bo imported, but
that efforts to beautify consist in
restoring the natural vegetation.

banquet at tho University club last
night whllo tho ladles of tho party
wero entertained by tho ColleRO
Women's club at tho Hotel Medford.

Medford hosts and enthusiastic ap
preciation on tho part of tho visitors.

most distinguished scientists In the
party, all Bpoko expressing their sur
prlso at the hospitality accorded them
by Medford citizens and appreciation
of the snmo with tho wish that they
might bo given tho opportunity to
return tho courtesy on their foreign
shores.
Dr. Alfred Dachnowskl of the Ohio
university, Columbus, Ohio, acted as
interpreter and followed tho foreign
speakers with elucidating remarks
but tho frcquoncy with which tho
English languago was usod mado

of tho members present and all tho
speeches wero frequently Interrupted
with laughter and applause.
Tho members of tho party wero
given an auto tour through tho val-
)oy and Bhown tho orchards
leaving at 10:52 for San Fran
cisco and tho Yosemlto. Prof.
Henry C. Cowles of tho University of
Chicago, is in charge of tho party and
in a brief and graceful speech thank
ed tho members of tho Commercial
and University clubs for their cordial
wolcomo and expressed tho .belief that
when tho Journey was completed
Medford would remain In tho minds
of tho members as tho brightest spot
in their cntlro itinerary.
