R. K. Neil,J Vice-President of the Rogue River Valley Canal Company, in an open letter, states the proposition :
Sonic bixl.v lns iitfo a rcpivsoiitnlivc l' KukHsIi capital
approached us, slating (lint they would lie willing (o take
nvor our properties, develop the canal .system, and givo
the people a 20 year contract, provided HO.OOO acres could
he hIkiicjI up. Tho representatives stated that these peo
ple would take over the property, complete (ho canal sys
tem, build an electric railroad, and develop many onter
priscs here, and would bring a large amount of nioiioy into
this valley, and prosperity would naturally follow a devel
opment ol'l his magnitude.
After duly considering the proposition, we decided thai
if we were standing in the way of developments of (his
magnitude, and (he prosperily that would naturally follow
thii development work, that wo would give those ' English
people a JJ0 day option on our holdings, which option ex
pires (ho liOlh of .May.
Our company will no( he aide to finance the system of
canals under (he UO year water contract, as contemplated
hy the English people. AVe do not think there is am
money to he had in tho United States on water bonds run
ning 20 years without payments of any part of. the princi
pal for the first three to five years, lint this can bo done,
we tire informtM, by English capital. It makes no diffor
erence to the people of this alloy who furnishes the money.
The reason tho English company can give a more liberal
contract is that they deal in a foreign money market whoro
better terms can be secured. L have looked up the inter
ests behind this English syndicate and know them to bo
sound and strong. .1 f the people should sign up with thorn,
thousands and thousands of dollars would bo put in this
valley and overy ono would be benefited.
. AVp gavo (his option believing that the ranch owners
desired a nioro liberal contract than wo were able to
finance. K tho fruitgrowers and ranch owners desiro to
purchase their water on a 20 year basis, wc earnestly urge
them to get busy and sign up for the acreage asked by the
English syndicate.
The purpose of this letter is to notify tho farmers and
ranch owners that if they desire a more liberal contract
than the 10 year contract put out by the Rogue River Val
ley Canal company, and published" in the Medford press,
they should at once sign up tho contract and meet tho re
quirements of tho English syndicate, thereby enabling
them to tako over the property and holdings of the Roguo
River Valley Canal company under their option, which
expires on May 20th next.
It certainly behooves tho land owner of the Roguo river
vnllov to at onco commence producing, if he expects to
hold the present hmd values.
This in the finest opportunity the Rogue River Valley has yet had to secure the exten
sive development and increased production that irrigation will bring.
We appeal to the land owners of the Valley to sign up for water, and sign now. Infor
mation, contracts, etc., on application. Auto owners and land owners asked to assist as volunteer solicitors
