Governor Johnson in his statement
in the Chicago Tribune March 12.

The county supervisors have res
ponded to the forest sen-ice's offer
by agreeing to have tbo route lowed

law aud declared n public highway,
after which the county's $2,000 will be
available. The additional $2,500,
which it is estimated will be ncces
wiry, .will be raised by subscription.

If tho trail can be converted into
a wagon rond by 1015 it will com

Francisco along the const to Eureka,
through Ilumbolt county up tho Ida
math river to Vrekn nnd Horabrook
nnd nlso up the Scott river or Salmon
rher into Scott valley, aud thence in
to Shnstn valley aud back to San
Francisco. It will lend through some
of the most beautiful mountain nnd
vnlley country to bv found in Siski
you county or tho world. It will bhow
up tho county resources, including
furms, mines, power possibilities nnd
railroad projects, nnd do n vast
uraonnt of good from every stand
point.
This rond will connect with the
new wagon rond to bo constructed by
the local forest scrvico through the
Cook nnd Green pass, near the Blue
ledgo mine. It will open a large district.

the scaffold without assistance. Tho
trap was sprung at exactly ten

ment by the legislature makes it man
datory for n trial judge to imprison n

by the senate on the bill which would
hnvo abolished the death penalty for
tho crime of treason. This bill dies
