GOVERNOR
BLAMES
CROOKED REPORTER
SALRM. Ore,, Feb. B. To tho
"crookedness of a certain newspaper
reporter," and not to to mora that
have gained currency through any
other source, Governor West attri
butes tho report that has rone abroad
that he Is part to a political frame-
up that would put.Geonce E. Cham
berlain Into tho Wilson cabinet, Rive
West tho senatorial toga, and Sec
retary of State Olcott tho combined
offices of secretary and governor.
Said Governor West teday:
"Tho report that has Keno out
about a political combination to
which Senator Chamberlain, Secre
tary Olcott and myself arc parties is
a product of the disordered mind
possessed by a certain crooked nows
paper reporter.
"I am for J. N. Teal for secretary
of the Interior, and for George B.
Chamberlain for United States sena
tor. But! of by any good fortune It
should happen that Senator Cham
berlain should bo named for a posi
tion In tho cabinet of President Wil
son, I would bo very much pleased,
and by reason of the vacancy In the
senate caused by such an appoint
ment, I would feel It my duty, and
It would afford mo great pleasure
to appoint some clean, honest demo
crat to succeed him. I am having
too much fun here at present to have
any desire to go to tho senate.
Neither tho secretary of state nor
myself are so hungry for political
honors as to enter Into, any such
scheme as that outlined In the news
paper report. 1 will say further
that I am not a candldato for re
election for govornor."
