frage, who was suggested by her
friends as a candidate for mayor to
day declined to enter the race. Her
statement follews:
To tho editer:
Relieving as tjdo that the most
important duty igthe one" nearest at
hand I must beg to decline the nomi
nation as mayor. Wo worked for the
ballot, not to hold office but-to have
our part in saying Who should. Ten
years from now, when women are a
force in politics, a woman mayor
might lie a help to Medford. With
many thanks to the friends 'who have
offored me their support.

Whether the city will elect a city
recorder and two councllmen from
the second ward this year or not will
he decided at a council meeting next
Tuesday evonlng when an opinion
from tho city attorney will bo heard.
The charter is not clear on tho point.
Robert W. Telfcr was elected city
recorder ono year ago for a two year
term. Shortly afterward ho ulgned
and Elmer T. Fobs was elected re
cordor by tho council. Whether ho
holds for Mr. Tqlfor's entire term or
until the next city election is the
question.
Tho same question arises in con
nection with W. X. Campbell elected
by tho council to fill tho unexplrpd
term of E. C. Ireland who was elec
ted for two years a year ago.
The official count completed re
cently by the county clerk shows the
following elections to tho offices of
justice of tho peace and constable in
this county.
