criminal division of tho superior
court. Judge L. S. Roan presiding,
will meet hero next Monday and the
opening ot tho session is awaited

for tho first caso to bo taken up is
lhat of Mrs. Daisy Opio Grace, who
Is charged with having attempted to
murder her husband, Eugene Hamil
ton Grace. This intense interest in
'the case is duo not so much to the so
cial prominence ot tho defendant and
her alleged victim, but to tho pe
culiar circumstances surrounding the
caso and tho mystifying features
which promise to make the trial one
long to bo remembered.
Mr. and Mrs. Graco came to this
city from Philadelphia, their former
home, about eight or ten months ago.
According to statements made by Mr.
Grace sinco tho shooting, his wife,
who is an .unusually handsome and
attractive woman, used to be one of
tho numerous sirens of the Great
"White Way of New York, when he be
came acquainted with her a few years
ago. Sho fascinated him and, after
a brief courtship, ho married her and
took her to Philadelphia, whero he
held a responsible position. Less
tnan a year ago, Mr. Graco, who is
wo) I to do and has prdporty interests
in tho south, decided to remove to
Atlanta, whero ho owns some valu
ablo real estate.
Graco and his wife made a good
impression and freely mingled In
local Boclal circles. They seemed to
bo devotod to one another and no
body over suspected that bloody
tragedy lurked behind tho all-deceiving
mask pf happiness. Tho catas
trophe camo in tho night ot March
5. What really occurred within the
secrecy of the Graces' beautiful home
on West 11th street, is still a mys
tery, tho solution of which at the
coming trial Is awaited with Intense
interest. Beyond a general denial of
tho charges made by her husband
Mrs. Graco has volunteered no state
ment that would throw any light up
on tho events of that night. Mr.
Grace, however, haH not been so re
ticent. According to his statement, made
on tho day aftor the shooting, when
tho doctors oxpected that his death
would bo merely a question of a few
hours, Mr. Grace was in bed, asleep,
wlton his wlfo shot him. Awakened
by tho shot, ho found himself power
less to movo and begged his wlfo to
cull a doctor. Sho left tho house,
according to Mr. uraco'ts story, but
Instead of calling a doctor, sho took
tho next train for Newnan, the homo
of Mr, Grace's mother, There hIio
was urrostcd upon tho chargo of at
tempted murder and brought back to
Atlanta. Later she was released un
der $5,000 ball.
