chicks, which were slain In some
uyRtcrlous manner over a week ago,
during tho temporary absence of the
family from the ranch which Is lo

til tho piesent, the outraged proprie
tor has kept quiet concerning his
loss, hoping to gain somo clow to
the Identity of the parties who per
petrated the outrage. The chicks
were released from tho coop wherein
the owner had penned them, and
were evidently killed by blows upon
their heads, presumably the work of
mischievous youth with ar guns. Mr.
Stevens had but recently engaged In
the poultry business, and the loss of
so considerable portion of the
spring hatch is a serious setback to
his plans for another season,
