publican national committee has ap
pealed to Mayor Harrison for police
protection at today's session
of tho committee. Colonel Stone's
action, ho said, was prompted by tho
reports that certain Roosevelt leaders
bad prepared to tnkesteps to intimi
date tho membership of the commit
tee in its deliberations. Other mem
bers of tho committee, including Col
onel New, Senator Crane and Senator
Sanders, said they heard reports of
a ' planned Roosevelt demonstration

"There will be no 'rough house in

business yet experienced at tho pub

with an eager throng of buyers while
oarji anil uvery stall at tho market
was occupied. Tho amount of busi
ness done was remarkable and shows
how the residents of the city appre
ciate tho market.
Monts were on sale this morning
and a line of women ,o.tondtuK
through the building testified to its
attractiveness as n drawing card. A
largo business was done at the meat
stall while across tho nlslo :i farmer
offered a largo number of country
hams, bacon and lard ami did a
splendid business,
Before. S:30 a. m. over 200 chick
ens had boon disposed of at tho mar
ket. H. P. Littlo brought over a
load of poultry and was not permit
ted to roach a stall tho women buying
all he had to offer beforo ho could
get insldo of the building.
Tho. offerings of vegetables were
very largo and covered, a wide range
Xew potatoes were a feature and
were eagerly seized upon.
Fully 600 buyers patronized the
market before noon today. At 9
o'clock this morning a count showed
ISO in the market at one time.

representation that the pending suit

ern Pacific such persons aro acting
without authority and the following

Railroad company the lands granted
by congress to that company have
