Rival Roosevelt nnd Taft delegations
will conteHt at Chicago for the four
teen oeatH of tho Htato of Waahlni;
ton In tho national republican con
vention. Two entirely separate state
conveulloiiH that met in separate
hallK elected separate delegates and
adopted separate platforms were
held today.
The platform ndoptPd by tho
Taft convention was largely
an eulogy of President Taft and
his administration. It denounced
tho recall of judges, demands the
opening of Alaska to private acquis
ition and the withdrawal of unwar
ranted executive orders which have
blighted that territory.
The Roosevelt platform favors the
presidential primary law, Initiative
and referendum, recall of elective of
ficers, Including tho judges, com
mends conservation of national re
sotirces and "home rule" for Alaska.
After Instructing for Roosevelt, the
platform nays If he cannot be nom
inated then "delegates shall bo free
to nominate Robert M. I.a Follette
or some other progressive candidate."
