told of his reception in Oregon cities

Campaign Through Oregon,
Fighting Hob's campaign in Oregon

Kugeno, Albany, Corvnllis, Salem,
Independence, Amity, Dallas, Dayton,

crowds and in Portland the throng

auditorium. Some of the talks were
delivered in the rain and many of the
rides between stops were made bv
automobile in rainstorms. In spite

in fighting trim eager to bring the
voters here the message of progres
sive republicanism.
In Hoseburg La Follette upset
schedule plans when he refused to b
introduced bw a stntulnnte citizen,
sending word before the speech" that
some other chairman must preside.

When asked about the Roosevelt
victory in Illinois, La Follette replied,
"1 had no time to campaign as the
primary law was passed there but
n few days before the primary itself.
My friends advised that 1 leave my
name off the ballot as they thought
a defeat might hurt my chances in
other btutcs, but I knew there would
be some who would wish to vote for
me in Illinois so I entered the fight
to give them the chance to vote."
Without any campaign the state gavo
close to 43,000 votes.
Mrs. La Follette was pleased la
hear that the ladies of Medford had
arranged for her to meet them and
when she was told that a ride through
tho valley was planned she was de
lighted. "Medford must be n very progres
sive city to interest itself so strongly
lor suffrage," she said. "Iu most of
the places where we visited I found it
strong sentiment, but in one or two
cities tho women didn't seem to wnnt
the vole."
At Gold Hill La Follette got off

the third time within ten days iiiniir

passenger traiu. ten miles below
Guaymas, Souorn, firing several vol
leys of i-hots into the locomotive cab
and through the windows of the Pull
man coaches. No one is believed 'o
have been hurt. Federal nirtiles have
been rushed to the scene.
According to accounts of persons
who wero on the traiu, the occupants
of the coaches threw themselves to
