The distillate-oil stock emulBlon should bo made uh fol fel fol
eows: Hot water 12 gallons
KIhIi-oII or whalo-oll soap (above formula) 30 pounds
DlHtlllnte-oll (law) 30 to 34 degrees lleaumo 20 gallons
Have the water boiling when put into the spray tank and
add soup while agitator In running at good speed. When
soup I thoroughly dissolved, pour In tho dlHtlllnto-oll slowly,
keeping the ml.xturo well agitated. Whou oil and soap are
well mixed, pump nut through tho spray nuzzle at a pressure
or not lewi than 175 pounds Into a storage tank. Thl Is
the ntock omullon, and contain 55 percent oil. To make u
3 percent emulsion ubo 5V6 gallons of this stock lu uach 100
gallon tank. To dlluto, first put the Ntock emulsion in spray
tank and then add wntor, heaping ngltntor running. To make
llio npray more effective, tobactio black leaf or sulphnto of
nicotine mny bo added after the emulsion has been diluted.
The amount of each to add will bo itv accordance with for

Water I gallon
DUholvo soap lu watur by boiling; add hot suds lo tho
horosene. Do not do this near a (lie. Agitato, tho mixturo
with a spray pump so as to emulsify the oil. Aftur five min
utes the mixturo becomus creamy. To uso, dlluto tho above
stock solution at tho rate of ono gallon to 10 gallons of
water. This is a standard romody for destroying green nphls.

and young maggot Infesting onions, radishes and othor gar
den crops.

Dissolve snap In boiling water; add acid nnd stir or churn,
iih lu making kerosene emulsion, until the substance becomes
creamy. Too use, dilute one part of the emulsion by adding
30 parts of wuter.
Bran-Arsenic Mash

Drown sugar (or molasses) 1 to 2 pounds

Thoroughly mix the above and add enough xvator to make
thoroughly wet. A spoonful should bo placed near the crown
of each tree. Tho mash may be used to kill grasshoppers,
but It Is usually best to cover the trees and use the liordeaux
mixture as- a repellent.

and salt; mix thoroughly and scntter in small piles among

may be sown among the rows of plants to be protected. It
is vuluable for destroying cut worms In young onions.

Potatoes and grains should bo soaked In It for about two
hours. Smut of onions may albo be prevented by treating
the seed. Practically all garden seeds will bo disinfected by
tho use of this formula.
Corrosive Sublimate

This U tho standard disinfectant when working with PEAR
ni.K.HT. No other disinfectant should be used to wash the
cut surfaces or to disinfect tho pruning tools.

Corrosive sublimate may bo purchased In tablet form at
drug storcB, and directions for making solutions will bo found
on the container. Never put corrosive sublimate Into n
metallic container, nlwnys use a glass bottle. Dc sure to
label the bottle "POISON" in large, plain letters. It ia tho
deadliest of poisons.
Pine Tar
For soil-infostlng, soed-oatlng insects such as tho wire
worm, tar may bo usod with good results.
Pine tar 1 tenspoonful
Seeds 15 pounds
Dampen the seeds, such as corn, squash, cautcloupcs, etc.,
with a little warm water. Put in the tar and mix thoroughly;
allow to dry before planting. Tho tar acts as a repellaut.
Sticky Preparations
(Tanglefoot)
Tanglefoot may bo purchased In cans or palls. It Is
manufactured by O. and W. Thum Co., Grand Itaplds, Michi
gan. By putting It on bands of paper or strawboard sccurod
about tho trunks of treos, it will catch such liibeots as creep
up or down tho trunks of trees. It will not dry readily, uud
ouo application will last n long time.

salt, well dissolved. In warm wator. Then add tho rico boiled
hot; tho Spanish whiting; and finally tho gluo which has been
previously dissolved over a slow llro, Lastly, add tho flvo
gnllons of hot xvator. Stir well and let stuntl for a few
days. Apply hot with a brush. Ono pint of tho mixture will
cover a square yurd. Coloring matter may bo put In, such
