taxes, none of the money has been spent in Medford. even
the macadamizing of the county roads stopping half a mile
from the city limits.
Mcdford energv and Mcdford enterprise and Medford
capital is largely responsible for the growth and devel6p
ment of Jackson county. It is to Mcdford the county must
look for future development of its dormant natural re
sources.
Medford is big enough and broad enough and wise
enough to realize that it can only grow as the county
grows and therefore is bending every energy to that end
Mcdford enjoys harmonious relations with all the val
ley. All the cities except Ashland lined up with Medford
on the road bonds. Medford lends everv aid and every
cooperation in the upbuilding of every section, it helped
Ashland get an armory, fought for its normal school and
is free from the animosities that actuate the granite city.
The village press of Ashland, Gold Hill, "Woodville, for
the past three months have never missed an opportunity
to persistently malign, abuse, villify and belittle Medford.
Every criticism of county af fail's was made the excuse for
airing petty jealousy and animosity and prejudice against
Medford, in the effort to create discord and strife, to line
up the county against its most progressive city. One of
the little papers would slander and all the rest copv to
convev the impression that public sentiment sustained
their libels.
Now the object of all this mud-slinging has become
apparent. Ashland would again, as it did for 20 vears.
dictate county politics, control the county judgeship and
have. the other towns, who have little in common, burn
their fingers in pulling Ashland chestnuts out of the fire.
George V. Dunn, who slept peacefully for four years
at the courthouse and won fame for elevated roads, has
been resurrected from oblivion and put forth as Ashland's
candidate for c.ountv iudcro.
Judge Dunn, an excellent gentleman personally, has SiSk'ti'S:
nothing to recommend linn tor the position to whi h he
again aspires. He is not progressive in any sense of the
word. He fought road bonds, and is opposed to almost
everything in the line of progress. His idea of business
is that of the miser to sit on the lid and do nothing.

Eaglo Point Lodge No. 227, I. O. O.
I, your readers woro load to infer
that, through neglect on tho part of
tho officials of tho Pacific and East
ern railway company, no special ro
turn train was run from Eagle Point
and that visitors woro forced to re
main in Eaglo Point until morning.
These faats aro true, but it was
through no fault of tho railway offi
cials, Tho commltteo on transporta
tion did not iuk for a spoclal roturn
train, expecting tho work to keop tho
brothron busy until tho tlmo of tho
regular morning train. Wo slncoroly
rogrot tho incident but fool that tho
railway officials should be exonerated
from all blame.

ATTENTION" of county road supervisors, the county
court and the district attorney is respectfully called
to section G317 of Lord's code, which provides that road
supervisors must erect signs and mile posts at road inter
sections or draw no pay. The section referred to reads as
follews:
"Section 6317 Every supervisor shall erect and keep
up at the forks of every highway and every crossing of
public roads within his road district a guide or finger
board, containing an inscription, in legible letters, direct
ing the way and specifying the distance to the next town
or public place situated on each road, respectively: pro
vided, that the road supervisors shall not be paid after
submitting their report to the county court until they have
shown to the satisfaction of the court that the provisions
of this section have been complied with."
Every road supervisor in Jackson county has failed to
comply with this law and the pay of each can and should
be held up until the law is complied with.
There is scarcely a sign post in the county. There is
not a county mile post. It is up to the supervisors to get
busy.
Under Commissioner Patterson's regime, a road survey
of the county was made and each road measured and lo
cated, so that the required information is on tap for the
supervisors to make use of.
