WASHINGTON', Feb. 5. (m-

moved that the house suspend its

taken in Slnyden's attempt to "choke
off" the Oyster Hay candidacy nt this

made with a view to crippling any im

BOOS ASSOCIATED WITH
ROGUE RIVER CANAL CO.
George J..lioos, formerly secretary
of the Jfedford Comtneniial club, is
now associated with the Kogue River
Cnnnl company, telling his neighbor
the iidvuntugerf of irrigation. Mr,
Iloos spent several years in Oregon
as .special agent for the government
investigating irrigation, the scope of
his work itioluding nil facts to show
the present status of irrigation. Hpe-
ciflc information concerning clinrnc
tor and aosts of irrigation, the area
of land irrigated, irrigated lands
available for settlement, the riuuutity
of water used per acre and yield of
crops on irrigated lands. This data
was gotten for all the western slates
and will be available uliortly in bulle
tin form. Mr. Uoos feels satisled
from his investigation that the dutn
procured will awaken n widspreud
interest in irrigation, which is no
longer a local question, but is con
fined to this whole western country.
Mr. Uoos will imike hcuflqimrtcr-.

It Is tho only business euterprlso
In which tho city of Boston has uvur
engaged that has been a financial
success, Tho Income from that mar-
kot, howover, amounts to $131,000 u
year, giving a net profit of rroni
$110,000 to U M00.
Over and above the first expense
of tho laud that the city took upon
which to build tho market houso, the
Interest on the uiwiey borrowed for
the erection of (ho building and
every oxpvnso connected with It, In
cluding repairs and officers' salaries,
the market has brought' to tho city

the market house never cost tho city

There Is no hour In tho -1 when

hears a rumbling up tho streot and
tho heavy clank of a horsu's feet
upon the rough cobblos. Tho sound
comas nearer and nearer and Into
view Is brought a farmer's wagon
hunpod with produce from some out
lying farm. It Ik drawn up length
wise by tho side of tho curb. Tho
horses are unhitched and clatter
away to a stable in an adjacent
streot. Moro vhrous come.
Tho drivers chooso tholr places,
but preserve a regular plan. They
form orderly rows, six deep, drawn
lengthwise alongside tho curbing and
leaving wldo spaces between tho rofs
so that, when the horses arc taken
out, the front and tho back of each
wagon havo aa open space at wliiuh
to display Its goods und wait upon
Its customers. Tho rows extend tor
