Arthur Putnam Making Game Flrjlit,
ami Unless Recurrence of Malady
Follows, Hay Be Able Eventually
to Continue His Labors.
George Putnam has returned from
a visit to his brother, nt San Fran
cisco, Arthur Putnam, the Cullforula
RculptoV, who was recently twlco
operated upon lor brain tumor, Ho
reports that tho sculptor Is making
a gnme right for life and unless n
reoccurrenco of tho baffling malady
follows, may be able eventually to
resume his work.
Though surgeons say that he Is
permanently paralyzed upon his left
side and the motlvo portions of tho
brain removed, Putnam can, with ef
fort, move both foot and hand nnd
It Is believed that when tho great
wound In his head caused by tho
double operation has healed suffi
ciently to penult It, that massage
and electricity will ennblo him to
partially regain uso of his helpless
side.
For two weeks following tho sec
ond operation tho sculptor lost
ground steadily. During tho past
week, however, ho has gained re
markably, though still pathetically
helpless. Tho Intense pnlu In his
head that prevented sleep except
under opiates, is gradually lessening.
His mind Is as clear as It ever was.
Associates aro finishing uncompleted
orders under his directions and n
host of friends stand ready to assist
him. He has been moved from tho
hospital to an apartment near by. A
nurse Is In constant attendance,
three physicians examine him dally,
and everything that can be done to
help him is being done. His mother
will remain with him' Indefinitely.
