That the Hood River fruil district
in no way compares with that df the
Rogue Riynr valley, especially in the
manner in which the orchards aie
kept is tho statement of Professor
S. B. Hall an expert horticulturist
who has just rctururd from a vMt
it Hood River. While away Mr. Hall
-aw nothing which could compare
with the local orchard.
"Tho orchards in the Hood River
district are not. as well cared for
is they nn in tho Rogue River val
ley' stated Mr. Hall, "and intelligent
cultivation is far more rare. The or
chards are ragged, and in conversa-
iton with trmt growers i did not
find as great a degree of knowledge
as exists among the growers on the
Rogue. '
"Hood River does raise superb
fruit, but the valley could easily in
crease the utility with scientific
cultivation such us is practiced in
this valley Only n few of tho orch
ards arc in first cla-s condition."
