SOON IEGIN WORK UPON
RAILROAD TO MERRILL
KLAMATU-FAU.S. Or.. Aug. fi.- -Indications
are that work will he be
gun on this road from Klamath Falls
to Merrill in the near future. The
road to he, known as the Modoc
Northern Itnihvay, is the property of
the Southern Pacific. The contracts
for right of way in the vicinity of
Merrill provide, that work must oe
started by September next. Some
few nights ago the persons who had
sold rights of way to tho Modoe
Xorthcni wero notified to remove the
improvements from the premises.
This is taken to indicate that some
notion is to be taken in the immedi
ate future.
It is understood that the contrac
tors, Erickson'. & I'ettcrsoii, on this
end of the , Klamath Falls-Natron
out off will complete their contract
early this fall and that very little
work can he" done on this road until
late next Rpring., The condition has
given strength to the report that
Erickson & Peterson nre to begtj
.work on. the road to Merrill just n
soon ns thoy complete their present
contract. The roud to Merrill trnv
crses the Klamath hnsin and is prac
tically level. If, the entire force cf
Erickson fc 1'cttcriM.Mi were trans
ferred to this ijrojpct there is no
reason why the Mndoc-Nortlicrn
should nof he operating trains be
