Chicago from heat within 24
hours. There is no relief in
sight nnd tho weather fore
casters say tomorrow will be

In order to keep pace with tho de
mand created by thV'great Increase
made In development by Medford the
Rogue River Electric Company 13
planning extensiro Improvements in
its local service which will greatly
Increase facilities In this city. New
transformers are to be added to the
present equipment in the local sub
station which will Increase the horse-
lower handled there from S00 to 1800
which means that tho present number
of kilowatts will bo Increased from
450 to 1200. When this additional
power Is provided for it will bo suf
ficient for somo tlmo to come.
The company is now engaged In
putting in a laYger and new stylo of
arc light on tho various intersections
throughout tho city. These lights
havo already been placed on the East
Side and others will to put in as
soon as possible. Theso lights aro
far superior to the present ones in
use and will make Medford a far
better lighted city.
New feed lines to carry tho Increas
ed power aro being constructed
throughout tho city on new poles
which are much taller than tho old
ones and not as' numerous. Many of
tho present wires will bo removed
so that tho appearance or tbo city
will ho improved to a great degree.
Frank Loder, superintendent of
construction for tho company, has a
largo forco of men at work making
tho Improvements and states that the
work will bo rushed through to completion.

guard" faction of tho National Educa
tion Association was reported hero
today when, it 13 cald, tho resignation
of President Nicholas Murray Butler
of Columbia University, New York,
was presented as chairman of tho
board of trustees of tho organiza
tion. That President Butler's resigna
tion has actually been presented
none of tho officers of tho organiza
tion would admit but tho report was
generally circulated and believed In
tho ranks of tho teachers.
When the board of 'directors of tho
association met shortly before noon
in the St Francis Hotel today it
was known that stlrrln; times would
como behind tho closed doors.
The resignation of President But
ler, theso teachers who credited tho
report say, will mean the triumph

ed that President Butter's resignation
had been accepted and that ho had
been succeeded as chairman of tho
board of trustees by J. Stanley Brown
of Jollet. Illinois.

secret throughout, but it was learned
that they had received and accepted
tbo reports of tho treasurer and tho
board of trustees without comment or
