If you can't be sane
My little man,
Bo just as sane
As ere you can.
If those train robbers are going to

The Crooked Path.
What would I give for a chance to
walk
The winding roads once more,
The turns in the roads that surely

And say, "Come you, explore?"
Thoro was ho who chose the path
that's straight,
With the goal in sight before; '
Ho know the path, ho knew what fato

And the ono who took the crooked

What sort of man was ho?
A sinner doomed to bear a load

COURAGE, PURPOSE AND LOVE
i
AS wc grow older, the bright hopes of youth thnt crim
soned tho morning sky, l'mlo into a dull and duller
day.
Tho fair rosebuds of promise, whoso perfume scented
the earlier hours, strew our paths with withered crimson
ed petals.
The restless finger of time etches us with relentless
lines, recording with our years, our passions, cares and
follies.
Our sins and errors made the by gone years like mile
stones, and each stone records the burial of some, of the
aspirations of youth, some of the illusions that brightened
the dawn.
As the years sped by, we have seen more or less of life,
tasted its joys and pleasures, telt its sorrows and pains,
its absurdities, injustice and inequalities and some times
tilings seem strangelv aurv.
"We see merit ousted, and genius shelved. "We see the
. -...-. -
lizard reaching by its torturous progress, the same peaks
as the eagle in its flight and tho buzzard soaring as high
as the king of birds.
We see vice parading in the clothes of virtue, dis
honesty lingering in the lap of the sanctimonious, rascal
ity lurking in the seats of the mighty, and the god of gold
blindly worshipped instead of the god of love. "
v
Yet we have learned but little of life with its fortunes
and misfortunes, its hopes and disappointments, if from its
flimsy vanities we have not. plucked courage.
Courage, that mysterious blendiner of faith.'of stamina.
of bravery, that enables us to live through the midnight
of disaster, defying the tempests of dispair, into tho day
of accomplishment.
Yes, to pluck us from despondency and disappointment,
we are given courage the martial music of the soul.
.
And we have learned but little if the fitful flares of
youthful ambition which once lit the skv with our desides,
have not condensed into the steady burning light of pur
pose.
The rainbow ends of our early dreams vanished with
the dewy morn. We knew so much then now we see
"through a glass darkly" and catching the reflection of
a iixecl star, we guide our course b it.
Yet if from life with its sadness, gladness and mad
ness, we have not learned love, courage and purpose are
but "sounding brass and tinkling cymbal."
We have missed the great lesson of life, love, the liar
mony of the choir invisible.
The inspirations of the beautiful world, tin's impen
etrable sky, the faces of friends, have all been lost upon
us.
Destiny has placed us all together, sailing to that
bourne whence no traveler returns. Wc cannot live alone
or life would have no meaning. We are here to help and
be helped. And in helping one another, we find life in
highest meaning Love.
So, we must help and be helped, that our path mav bo
come like the path of the just "A shining light, shiu

A little thought will bIiow you how
vastly your own happiness depends on
the way other people bear themselves
toward you. Tho looks nnd tones at
your breakfaat table, tho conduct of
your fellow workers or employers, the
faithful or unreliable men you deal
with, what people say to you on the
street, tho way your cook and hous.
maid do their work, tho letters you
get, the friends or fops you meet
these things make up very much of
the pleasure or misery of your day.
Turn tho idoa around, and remember
that Just so much aro you adding to
tho pleasure or misery of other peo
ple's days. And this is tho half of
tho matter which you can control.
Whether any particular day shall
bring to you more of happiness or of
suffering is largely beyond your pow
er to determine. Whether each day
of your lifo shall glvo happiness or
suffering rests with you reel r.
