LARGEST SHIP
AFLOAT SAILS
New White Star Liner Olympic
Leaves Southampton On Her
Maiden Voyauo Has Tennis
Court, Bowling Alleys and Pools
SOUTHAMPTON, England. June
H.-In an nltcmpt to break the
wiirM'H word for speed ncross the
Atlnntlc, tlio new White Star Liner
Olympic, the 1 argent and finest vessel
In thu world, Balled at noon today
from tho now dock hero on her maid
en voyage.
In order that the big vessel might
not bo delayed a minute on her
maiden voyage nnd become a "hoo
doo Bhl" tho officers of tho White
Star I.lno temporarily conceded the
dcmnndH of the striking sailors and
coal nassors. The Titanic, sister ship
o ftho Olympic, which was launcheor
nt liPlfast, Ireland, two weeks ago,
will he ready to enter tho Southampton-New
York service late this year.
Although tho Olympic and Titanic
easily surpass for sire and speed the
liiisltanla nnd Mauretanla of the
Cunurd ILne. they will soon thetn
selvcB bo eclipsed. The mammoth
iurblncr Imperator, now building for
tho Hamburg-American lino Is S9S
feet In length, or 7 1-2 feet greater
than the Olympic "and Tltantlc.
Tho Mauretanla now holds the
westbound' trans-Atlantic record of
A days, 10 hours and 41 minutes for
a passago between Queenstown and
Now York.
The Olympic Is SS2 1-2 feet long
nnd 92 1-2 wldo and has 45.000 reg
ister, being considerably larger In all
respects than the Lusltanla and Maur
etanla. Tho new liner Is the most
magnificently furnished and equip
ped vessel afloat, among the Innova
tions being swimming pools, a tennfs
court, a bowling alley and Turkish
and electric bath establishments.
Tho departure of the Olympic was
a gala occasion. American Consul
Albert Swalm nnd tho mayor of
Southampton visited tho ship. They
bade Captain Smith an official God
speed. Thousands cheered as the
vessel cleared from her dock. Scores
of vessels in the harbor saluted the
big liner with their sirens.

Oregon, If assurances are made that
tho authorities will not interfere with
tho bout.
