civic authorities of Baltimore today
to pay honor to James, Cardinal Gib
bons. The occasion of the celebra
tion was the fiOth anniversary of the
ordination of Gibbons as a priest and
the 2oth anniversary of his elevation
to the cnrdinalnle. Hundreds of
prominent men joined in the city's
tribute to tho cardinal, among them
being Chief Justice White of the
United States supremo court, James
Scboolscraft Sherman, vice president
of the United tSates und Governor
Crothers of Maryland.
A monster meeting was held in the
Fifth regiment armory in the after
noon where both Taft and Roosevelt
were scheduled to pay their tributes
to Gibbons. The cardinal himself

killed today. Meyers, a saloon Kir
ter, left his lodgings while fast
asleep this morning and, clad in his
.pajamas, went to tho saloon where
he had been employed. Ho swept oul
tho saloon, polished tho bar, washed
the glasses and then, still roundly
sleeping, walked out of the placo. A
policeman, attracted by Meyers' white
gannents, followed him and saw that
he was walking in his sleep. Meyers
climbed into an unfinished building,
tho officer following, but fearing to
wake him for fear he might fall. Sud
denly Meyers turned and walked out
of an opening on the fourth floor.
