The Liverpool market continues to
advance. Cable from h. Connolly &
Co. reports situation there today as
follews:

They add that the market continues
strong and advancing, arrivals much
smaller.
Only about 1300 boxes are going
on the Mauritania, sailing tomorrow
The only auction sales since our
last was held today, one car Watson
ville Newtowns selling to average
$1.00 but they looked very, old and
a bit soft.
The offerings nt private sale nrc
smaller at about the prices ruling ac
cording to our last, hut they have
been distributed and some cars sold
from cold storage nrc appearing along
Washington street. In fact almost
everyone of the buyers' stores have
box apples on salu as there are short
supplies of all other fruits excepting
oranges. The consumption therefore
is large and it will not bo a great
while before box nnples of the last
crop will be finished here.
It will interest you to know that
wo have been appointed to represent
the Apple Growers' union of Tas
mania and expect to receive some
solid shipments of their box apples
on arrival here between July 1 and
August 15. They come in refriger
ators of steamers, Tasmania to Lon
don, and refrigerators in otbfr steam
ers, London to New York. These ap
ples we shall probably sell at auc
tion. Weather eold and chilly for this
time of the year.

1470; sheep, 3398, and horses, 41.
Scarcity In cattle receipts continues
ami prices show a corresponding up
ward tendency. While prices receiv
ed nro practically the same as the pre
ceding week, tho quality of stuff re
ceived, as a whole, was not good. The
top on good, wo.U finished steers, hoy
red, remains steady to firm at $0.75,
with the call for tho bettor grades,
and buyers willing to pay well for
quality. Tho veal market canio Into
the limelight again with a Jump of
75c per hundred, making tho top on
light calves $S.75, with plenty of
takers. The bull market Is firm with
best grades selling at Gc.
Tho hog market held Its own dur
ing the past week and showed an
advance of 5c per hundred, top now
being ?7.80 for best well finished
hogs weighing around 200 pounds.
Local and eastern receipts were com
paratively heavy.
Demand for sheep Is steady with
gradual advance in prices, demand
exceeding tho supply by at least one
half. Spring lambs contlnuo In de
mand nt 10c, ewes at $1.50 to $1.75,
heavy wethers $1.75 to $5, lighter
grades $5.00 to $5.25, and heavy
lambs $5.50 to $G, with a dock of
50c per hundred on sheared sheep.
