Mr. and Mrs. William Morris of
Rock Point Have Been Wed Over
Half Century Lived in Jackson
County Since 1877.
Mr. and Mrs. William Morris cel
ebrated their 541k wedding annivcr
nry at Hock Point, Jackson county,
last Sunday. Mr. Morris married
Sarah E. Cook near Cedarvillc, Dade
county, Missouri, March 20, 1857.
They crossed the plains to Oregon
with mule teams in 1877 and lmvo
lived in Jackson county since. They
have been the parents of 13 children
10 o whom are living; the grand
parents of 30, living, and grand
parents of two.

It. Morris, brother of Mr. Morris;
Mrs. J. W. Hays, sister of Mrs.Mor
ris , and her husband; Mr. and Mrs.
J. A. Harvey and family, Mrs. W. A.
Cooy and family, Mr. arid Mrs. It. L
Cook and son, Mrs, Ben lluymoml
and family, Mr. an'd Mrs. J. W. Mor
ris and family, Mr. and Mrs. James
Smith and family, Mr. and Mrs. John
Hitter and son, and Alex Morris.
Mr. Morris is a veteran of the
civil war, having served with an Ar
kansaw regiment. He is 74 yeara of
rtge and Mrs. Morris is 70.

PLEADS GUILTY TO
' CHARGE OF LARCENY
J. E. Noring pleaded guilty of pet
ty larceny in the circuit court
Wednesday morning. He will bo sen
tenced Saturday.
His partner, J. W. Canon, who has
been convicted of attempted robbery,
was not pressed with the charge of
larceny after his partner confessed
and tho cast) dismissed.
Canon and Ncring had entered the
homo of Track Walker Oudman at
Siskiyou and stolo guns, knives and
cortridges. They wore apprehended
at Ashland by a telephone warning.
MRS. ROOSEVELT IS
NOT TO COME NORTH
PORTLAND, Or., March 30. Tho
Portland Press club and Commercial
club today received notification that
Hooscvelt, now in San Eraucibco
will not bo accompanied by his wife
;and daughter Ethel when ho visits
Portland and Seattlo next week.
. No reason is given but it is be
lieved that an expected event in tho
family of Theodore Uoosovclt, jr., is
responsible for tho change in the
original plans.

About a year ago two painters wore
engaged In painting two separate
houses, both on tho saniB street and
only about a block apart: Ono of
the painters wns an old resident of
the city and well known to most of
tho business men as a reliable, hon
est painter. Tho other wbb a new
man who had blown Into town on the
beams and Secured tho Job or con
tract of painting the house a block
further down the street at a figure
fully 25 per cent lower that the old
er palntor had offered to do tho same
Job. The owner bent on saving all
ho could engaged the now tramp
nalnter and work commenced. The
old resident palntor commenced to
paint on his Job about the samo time
tho new man commenced. Ho was
asked by tho owner to use a certain
brand of paint and although ho pre
ferred to mix his own paints ho went
ahead and used tho prepared paint
because lie know It to bo first class.
The now painter mixed his own paint
and both finished their respective
Jobs about tho sarnu tlmo nnd both
looked very well. Tho man who had
engaged tho new man and who had
saved quite a little sum In so doing
met tho old painter soon after tho
houses were finished and twitted him
a Uttlo about his high charges and
called his attontlon to tho fact that
his housO looked Just as good as
tho other which tho old painter had
Just, finished. Tho old palntor said
nothing only smiled, well knowing
that ho would got to paint tho other
house ovor some day. A year roll
ed by and tho now man had rlddon
tho beams out of town for greener
fields. Tho old painter was still In
town nnd getting more work than ho
could do. Ono day ho met the man
who had employed tho now palntor
noar his houso and asked him how
his houso was panning out. Tho man
replied that ho was very much dis
satisfied. That tho paint was all
pealing off In many plnces, that It
was blistering and tho houso was be
ginning to need repainting. Tho old
palater said nothing, only waited. In
a short tlmo tho man camo to sco
him nnd told him to go down and
paint hla houso and to bo sure to ubq
tho name kind or paint that he uHcd
oa the houses ho palntod a year ago
only a block from IiIb house. Tho
old palntor went ahead and did as
ho was asked.
Aftor tho Job waB finished tho mnn
came and asked him what kind of
thnt ho used "Bhorwln Williams",
paint he had used. IIo told him
every gallon guaranteed puro nnd up
to tho Ntandard. The mnn was well
pleased nnd told tho old palntor that
hereafter he would lmvo him do all
of his painting and that nothing but
"Shorwln Williams" would bo used
for said, ho, "Tho first house you
painted looks good after two years
and I have had to paint my houso
twice in order to keep It looking as
