Sea Wall Goes Out Before Fury of
Waves Wind Blows at 50 Miles
an .Hour Many Caskets Are

VICTORIA, B. C, Feb. 11. Over
200 yards of sea wall which protect
ed the cemeteries at Ross Bay ha"e
been washed away, a number of
graves have been torn open leaving
the caskets exposed ntul several cof
fins are lost at .sea us a result of the
gale which swept the coast until ear
ly today.
With the wind blowing at -10 and 50
miles an hour huge waves battered
their way through the sea wall yes
terday and then at awny the bunks.
In the old Chinese portion of the
cemetery 17 graves were exposed and
15 coffins from which the bodies had
been removed were swept to sea.
A number of caskets were disin
terred by the cemetery caretakers
and removed to a place of safety be
fore tho earth crumbled.
