the local Immigration officials in
stamping nut opium and Chlneso

gration authorities that, smugglers
wero planning to land another band
of Orientals on tho southern Califor

taken to run down tho rumor with a
view to ascertaining if it would be
necessary to send tho schooner Orient
clinrtercd by tho government, to son.
Tho Orient carries two rapid-fire
