pnny of southern Oregon will com
mence 'serving Us patrons wltliln the
boundaries of the city of Medford,
and from that hour will dally com-
pl6to as many new connections for
local service at! tho capacity of their
largo force of linemen will permit.
About 500 telephones have already
been contracted for In the city, and
'while 'all of tliem will not be ready
liy Saturday morning, a' lnrgo Mirii
b'er will. Everybody will put more
lilto service with 'tho result that In
stead 'of placing a permanent direc
tory into tho harids of subscribers
from tho commencement Of service,
a weekly "phone book" will be put
out, and Will give only thoso phones
hi actual operation.
' The equipment of the Home com
pany Includes all the, latest and most
iip-toAlate Inventions obtainable and
represents absolutely the last word
in telephony.
In the business section Individual
and two-paity lines have been laid
and out In the residential section
cither Individual or four-party lines
nlay bo had.
The most important feature of the
new system from tho subscribers'
point of view H the fact that by uso
of the Dean Ilrtrnioncs party lino vi
lli utor the central operator can call
any one phone on a party lino with
out ringing any other phono. .This
Insures secrecy and eliminates tho
distraction caused by tho ringing of
tho bell when ebnio other instrument
Is being called. Tho Home phones
also call "central" without the ne
cessity of turning a crank.
The company ha3 recently com
pleted the erection of a new two
story brick structure on West Sixth
street which will be Its pormanent
home here. In It, tho lower floor is
dovoted to tho accounting depart
ment, operating room, operators rest
room, stororoom and telephdno
booths. The other offices, consist
ing of thoso required to make tho lo
cal Station tho headquarters for the
entire Hoguo River valley, and on
tho second floor.
The operating plant consists of six
switchboards and an auxiliary power
supplying system to bo used If tho
city powor plant should become dls
aided. All of tho company's wires,
over 'too miles; havo been laid tin-
derground 3500 feet of conduits
'having been Installed to hold them.
This part of the equipment Is said to
be sufflciant for as many phones as
would bo required In a torn of
50.000.
Over $100,000 has been expended
In plant and equipment so far, fully
75 per cent ot which, tho company
states, has gone Into local channels.
About 50 people aro now on the
company's payroll hero and all of tho
local officers havo already selected
locations upon which to erect their
homes.
Jnoksonvlllowhen tho lino t.0 it is
completed, will be a local lino and
will not have to bo i cached through i
long dlstamo.
If you arc working at a "make
shift'" job, simply because tho suit
able position is iot to be hnd, begin
a clarified advertising campaign foi
self-betterment. There is a good job
for van and you can find it through
advertising. Very likely there is no
other way to find it.
