About 10 o'clock Wednesday night
E. W. Scott, who is employed as a
drayman in Achland, created a sen
sation on Front street by suddenly
nppenring with a length of some 25
feet of garden hoso trailing behind
him, shouting "Fire!" nt every step,
with tho nozzle of the hose pointed
toward tho clouds. Officer Memsic
asked him where he wns going. "Go
ing to thnt fire; they gnve me this
hose and told me to help put out the
fire."
Realizing the man's condition,
Memsic stood in with him, took up
ono end of tho hose nnd guided his
charge to the jail door. There the
fire idea seemed to leave him en
tirely and ho bolted through the al
loy at n pace that would make some
of the record sprinters look foolish
e wns cnught, however, nnd nfter a
night iii jail could not recollect where
ho hnd found tho hoso or any of the
attendant circumstances. "I must
have been drunk." was his only so
lution of the problem. lie was al

Ashland.
Three young fellows found sleep

To Visit Crater.
The secretnry of the interior will
also make n visit to Crater Lake Na
tional park so that he may determine
if these projects are worthy of ad
ditional government aid.
From Crater Lake he gpes to San
Francisco.
Regarding tho possible appoint
ment of Senator Flint of California
as secretnry of the interior in case
Ballinger resigns or is decapitated,
Finney said:
"Mr. Ballinger has never spoken
of Senator Flint. I personally know
him well and like him. Ho is a good
friend. But from the secretary's
viewpoint the enndidnqy of Mr. Flint
for the plnce is empty foolishness,
becnuse, first of all, tho secretary is
going to go right on holding that po
sition himself."
Secretary Ballinger is accompan

the secretary's private secretnry, M.
