The interstate commerce commisnion
is expected to order a general sus
pension of tho proposed railway
freight rate increases next Tuesday.
Whilo a "conservative" uso of the
commission's now suspension power
probably will be a general rule, the
commission has decided to investi
gate exhaustively the alleged need of
higher freight rates.
Under the now law the commission
Ik empowered to suspend the enact
ment of rates for ten months. It is
believed thai not more than three
months will bo required for an in
vestigation of tho schedules filed
with the commiHsion.
The rates are scheduled to become
effective August 1. They affect the
shippers of the entire country.
